Craft CMS vs Statamic
Craft CMS and Statamic are both credible choices for a custom business website. We prefer Craft when a marketing team needs connected content, reusable pages, and a carefully tailored editing experience. Statamic deserves serious consideration when an existing Laravel application and development team will shape the website's future.
Who Craft and Statamic are each for
Choose Craft CMS when:
- Editors need a consistent way to manage connected services, people, and locations.
- A Craft partner will design the publishing system and support it over time.
- Content and commerce need to share a tailored authoring experience.
Choose Statamic when:
- Your development team already builds and tests applications in Laravel.
- The website extends an existing Laravel application.
- Your editors have tested Statamic and work comfortably in its component system.

Craft CMS leads for this brief.
100 points allocated by business priority. Ties split the points.
We score websites built and supported by an agency, with editors working inside an approved design system. These are our recommendations for that brief, not product quality ratings.
How we scorePublishing and brand controlWinner: Craft CMS20-point priorityWe prefer Craft for a focused publishing experience that gives marketers reusable components without routine design decisions.
Craft lets us organize the control panel around the team's actual jobs: update a service, reuse a testimonial, assemble a campaign page, and preview the result. Matrix fields provide structured building blocks whose design we control. Statamic's Bard editor can also constrain components. Our Craft preference is about the experience we can deliver and maintain for business editors, not a claim that Statamic requires unrestricted layouts. Test both with your team's real publishing tasks.
Content architectureWinner: Craft CMS15-point priorityCraft gets our preference for deeply connected business content managed through one purpose-built editorial system.
Organizations often need the same person, product, program, or location to appear in several places without maintaining duplicate copies. Craft's relational fields make those connections central to the model. Statamic also supports relationships and database storage; it is not limited to a folder of text files. We favor Craft for the combination of these relationships, configurable entry interfaces, and Craft Commerce when transactions belong in the same content system.
Does Statamic require flat-file storage?
No. Database storage is available. Decide on storage using the project requirements and supported implementation options.
Custom implementationWinner: Statamic15-point priorityStatamic has the stronger starting point when custom development already lives in a maintained Laravel application.
Statamic is already built on Laravel, which gives a Laravel team familiar application patterns, packages, and testing tools. In a 2025 practitioner discussion, a developer who moved projects from Craft to Statamic described similar customer editing with easier development and testing. That is one account, but the architectural advantage is real for that team. Craft 6's announced Laravel move is promising; we do not award current Craft 5 the benefits of a future release.
Is one platform automatically faster?
No. Measure representative pages and queries with the intended hosting, cache, assets, and integrations. The CMS name is not a benchmark.
Security and supportTie15-point priorityBoth need active application support; the quality and scope of the maintenance agreement matter more here.
Neither self-hosted platform removes responsibility for access control, dependency updates, backups, restore testing, or incident response. Mostly Serious can take on Craft hosting, maintenance, updates, and support through an agreed service plan. A capable Statamic partner can provide equivalent ownership. Craft's published support window gives the current major version a long maintenance runway. Procurement should still establish the site's actual security requirements and response expectations. Hosting alone is not the same service as maintaining a custom application.
Lifetime valueWinner: Craft CMS10-point priorityFor our custom business website projects, Craft's integrated content tools can keep ongoing editorial changes more predictable.
We would favor Craft where the project centers on sustained publishing, connected content, and a design system maintained by a Craft partner. Its included content capabilities reduce the need to make separate implementation decisions for fundamental editorial features. This is an estimate of fit, not a measured cost saving. Price the build, training, integrations, hosting, plugins, and three years of changes on both platforms. Existing Laravel code or a productive Statamic team can reverse our recommendation without any change in license price.
Ecosystem confidenceTie10-point priorityBoth have committed specialist communities; available evidence does not establish a universal ecosystem winner between them.
Both have committed specialist communities. In an August 26, 2026 account, a developer describes moving three corporate sites to Statamic and using Claude for subsequent changes. That is a useful counterweight to our Craft preference, not a performance benchmark. Craft’s 2026 developer survey shows loyalty alongside plugin gaps and replatforming concerns. Check the maintainers and alternative support partners behind either proposed stack.
AI enablementTie15-point priorityBoth can support useful AI workflows through maintained addons and developer tooling, with project-specific setup required.
Statamic has a community MCP server for structured content access and Statamic Boost for development context. Craft has an MCP plugin covering content, schema, and diagnostics. These are concrete tools, but neither collection proves that editors receive a complete assistant automatically. Our tie covers editor automation, AI-assisted development, and available operational extensions. Choose the tasks first, then verify compatible versions, provider costs, permissions, and review before any agent publishes changes.
Planning a migration
Map collections, blueprints, taxonomies, assets, globals, and relationships to Craft entries and fields. Rebuild Antlers or Blade templates in the chosen frontend. Validate slugs, localized values, and asset references instead of relying on a raw file import.
Preserve useful URLs where possible. For changed paths, build and test a redirect map, transfer metadata, and monitor indexing and traffic after launch. Google's site-move guidance explains the process; search traffic can still fluctuate. Talk with us about planning a Craft project before committing.
