Overview
Fifteen years ago, Mostly Serious started in a spare bedroom building websites. Today, we help organizations solve connected website, team, and AI problems through three service lines: Mostly Serious, Habitat, and MSAI. We build and manage digital experiences, help teams work better together, and help organizations adopt generative AI in ways people will actually use.
We work exceptionally well together. We expect a lot from each other. We care deeply about doing great work, telling the truth, getting better, and enjoying the people we do it with. This is a fun, exciting, demanding, and rewarding place to work.
We are also in the middle of reshaping how work gets done as AI becomes deeply integrated into organizations. We are not watching that change from a distance. We are helping build it, test it, and use it in real work every day.
Mostly Serious is hiring a Senior Project Manager to keep active client work moving across all three service lines.
This role exists to create clarity, reduce surprise, and keep projects from drifting. You will take sold work, turn it into a clear plan, keep that plan current, and make sure clients and our team know what is happening, what is next, and what is blocking progress.
What You Will Do
- Turn sold work into a clear plan with named owners, dates, next steps, and dependencies.
- Make sure each project starts cleanly before work begins.
- Keep project plans current as reality changes.
- Look ahead so people know what is on their plate before the week starts.
- Follow up on missing client feedback, missing content, delayed approvals, stalled decisions, and anything else that can slow a project down.
- Push for clear and honest feedback from clients, even when the real issue is hard to say out loud.
- Catch hours risk, timeline risk, and delivery risk early enough to do something about it.
- Reset timelines quickly when the work changes or the plan no longer matches reality.
- Turn meetings, notes, Slack messages, and email threads into clear actions, owners, and decisions.
- Coordinate launch readiness and make sure the right work is done before launch.
- Run postmortems so we learn from misses instead of repeating them.
- Help improve how project management is done at Mostly Serious over time.
- Use generative AI and other tools in practical ways to turn repeatable coordination work into background work.
How You Will Work
- You will communicate clearly and directly with clients about timelines, next steps, blockers, decisions, and expectation changes.
- You will surface problems early instead of sitting on them while trying to solve everything yourself.
- You will move quickly without becoming careless.
- You will create structure without hiding behind process.
- You will support the team without micromanaging them.
- You will challenge weak work and call out mistakes quickly, but you will do it in a way that helps people improve instead of shutting them down.
- You will help strengthen our overall approach to project management through your example, judgment, and day-to-day work.
In client meetings, you should feel warm, authoritative, direct, and competent. You should be able to move a client from ambiguity to clarity to decision so the work can keep moving.
What Success Looks Like
- Projects feel calmer.
- People know what they are responsible for before the week starts.
- There are few fires and fewer midweek surprises.
- Clients get clear next steps and faster decisions.
- Delays, missing inputs, and stalled feedback get addressed quickly.
- Risk that cannot be resolved by you reaches your director the same day.
- Leaders spend less time rescuing projects that should have stayed on track.
- Our project management system gets stronger because you are here.
Must-Have Qualifications
- At least 7 years of experience leading complex client projects from handoff through launch and closeout.
- Strong judgment about what needs attention now, what can wait, and when a problem needs to be raised the same day.
- A track record of keeping multi-discipline work moving across teams with different skill sets.
- Clear, confident communication with clients and internal teams.
- A willingness to hear feedback and adjust quickly.
- The ability to listen well, stay organized, and make things clearer for everyone around you.
- Real comfort using generative AI and similar tools to remove coordination drag and improve the way work gets done.
Preferred Qualifications
- Agency experience
- A formal project management certification
- Strong self-awareness and a visible pattern of learning quickly from feedback
What This Role Does Not Own
- Proposal writing, final pricing decisions, or sales calls
- Billing adjustments
- Final design or development decisions
- Direct people management
You should challenge work and help make it better. You should not take final ownership of decisions that belong to someone else.
What Makes a Good Fit
This role is a strong fit for someone who can take messy active work and make it clear, steady, and moving.
It is not a fit for someone who moves slowly, overthinks everything, hides behind process, waits too long to raise problems, or needs work to feel perfect before it can move forward.
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package for a senior-level delivery role, along with Mostly Serious's current benefits package.
Current benefits include:
- Company-paid employee health, dental, and vision premiums
- Simple IRA match up to 3%
- Paid vacation and holidays
- Paid parental leave
- Winter break
- $500 work-from-home equipment stipend
Growth & Development
This role has room to deepen over time into stronger delivery leadership, broader operational influence, and sharper systems thinking across our three service lines.
We also expect the person in this seat to keep getting better at the craft itself, including project leadership, communication, and practical AI leverage in day-to-day work.
