Mostly Serious is in the middle of its largest growth period in our 15-year history. Our investments in AI enablement, for both our team and our clients, have opened new doors. Our consulting relationships have expanded. Our region-leading web services continue to deliver. And now, we're looking for someone to help us build the infrastructure to sustain it all.

We're hiring a Director of Operations to ensure our team has what they need to succeed, our systems can support current and future growth, and our processes are optimized to serve our clients well.

What This Role Looks Like

The Director of Operations will own day-to-day operations across our web, consulting, and AI services. You'll be responsible for building and running a simple, effective operating system: one that includes scorecards, a weekly reporting cadence, change-order and scope management, and processes that let our team focus on what they do best.

You'll manage capacity to hit our margin-based goals, maintain our cash runway, and keep work flowing smoothly from sales to delivery. You'll lead our team of Directors and work directly with our CEO and President to bring the company's vision to life.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

• Own day-to-day operations across web, consulting, and AI services.
• Build and maintain a simple, effective operating system with clear scorecards and reporting.
• Manage change-order and scope processes that keep projects on track.
• Maintain and refine processes that allow the team to be successful.

Financial & Capacity Management

• Manage capacity to hit margin-based goals and maintain cash health.
• Keep work flowing smoothly from sales to delivery.
• Collaborate on short- and long-term capacity planning.
• Own incentive design and automated reporting systems.

Team Leadership

• Lead and support our team of Directors across divisions.
• Model calm, accountable management for cross-functional teams.
• Work directly with the CEO and President to implement company vision.
• Hold yourself and others accountable to goals and commitments.

Who We're Looking For

Our ideal Director of Operations has a deep desire to be accountable, and to hold others accountable. You've built, implemented, and maintained operational systems before, and you're comfortable embracing a dynamic future. Specifically, we're looking for:

• Ops leadership experience in a digital agency or consulting context, with comfort spanning web, training, and consulting lines of business.
• Strength in building operational systems to scale organizations: capacity planning, process management, incentive design, and automated reporting.
• An accountable approach to managing directors and cross-functional teams.
• Fluency in modern tech processes and tools: Google Workspace, Slack, Asana, Harvest, QuickBooks Online, and internal tooling.
• Daily use of generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini to enhance your work, and genuine interest in identifying custom AI solutions our team can build to further improve operations.

About Mostly Serious

We're a 13-person AI enablement and web agency helping organizations adopt generative AI, ship reliable websites and products, and train teams for real-world use of those products. Our consulting division, Habitat Communication & Culture, specializes in strategic planning, leadership and management training, and team assessments.

Our lines of business span web services (Mostly Serious), consulting (Habitat), and AI training and custom builds (MSAI). Clients include CoxHealth, Mercy, Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc., Bass Pro Shops, and City Utilities.

Compensation & Location

This is a Springfield, Missouri-based hybrid role. Relocation is preferred but not required. Compensation includes base salary plus a performance bonus tied to margin, delivery reliability, utilization, and cash health. Travel is rare.
